Work 101

Well...here we are...summer's over. Had some other stuff to take care of and it took the entire month of July...sheesh...life has a way of throwing things at ya..!. Debriefed with the other Leadership Team members on Wednesday (Model Schools in D.C., and Professional Learning Communities in SLC...kind of wished we had sent EVERYONE to PLC...). Kind of burned out on presenting to our faculty (I know, I know, what a chicken way out...), so I had hoped to opt out of our Professional Development Days, but no such luck. Have to present, with a couple of 'reluctant' rookies on Collaboration...luckily, it's one of my favorites and one I know inside and out.

In our preparation(s), I was told we shouldn't use PowerPoint because the staff doesn't respond well to technology (by our 'rookies' no less...)...here we go again. I've become a technology-presentation-sort-of-guy thanks to Darren Draper, and I don't think I'm going back any time soon...so, I not-too-gently informed our novice presenters that we WILL not only use technology to teach our peers, we will use technology to also ENTERTAIN them...

Well...they were not too happy...they wanted to have this 'activity' and that 'activity', which sounded swell, but, to download a lot of information in a short amount of time takes more than 'activities'...we've got to get some information out there...sorry, but I trumped 'em and we're going with a combination of the two...sheesh...

Turns out I characterized my two cohorts as 'reluctant rookies' too quickly...they ended up being the experts, in spite of my 3-4 years of training in collaboration, and their 'activities' were dead-on with our faculty in getting the concepts across...sheesh, talk about getting an education...
